Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13th from 5 – 8 p.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville.

Ruth was born August 11, 1925 to Burk & Lottie Daniels Fowler in Kirbyville, Texas. She was a former resident of Tyler County and had lived many years in Friendswood and Pearland. She attended nursing school in Lufkin and earned her license in March of 1962. She worked at Tyler County Hospital until the family move in 1966 to Houston where she continued her nursing career there and in Friendswood. From 1990-1995, she earned her certificates as a Body Recall leader and led Body Recall training. Body Recall is a non profit organization that helps teach fitness and flexibility training programs for older adults and special needs population. She retired from nursing in 1996 at the age of 71. Her husband, Dub, had been diagnosed with a terminal disease in his early forties. The physicians had only given him four to five years, and he lived many more years until the age of 68 because of the amazing care of his loving wife, Ruth. Together they raised five sons. Ruth was the guiding force in the family pointing them all to Christ. After retiring, she loved traveling with her church group, gardening, and the joy of sitting on her front porch. She appreciated the beauty of every sunset. Even though she lived in the Pearland area, Tyler County and Rockland were still home in her heart. She loved the Lord and had the gifts of compassion and mercy. She was a wonderful, loving wife & mother, and she will be truly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. “Dub” Tompkins in 1984, her son, Gary L. Tompkins, and her brother, Anthony P. “Dusty” Fowler.

She is survived by her sons, Dana Tompkins & wife, Donna of Pearland, Billy Tompkins & wife, Dottie of Alvin, Curtis Tompkins & wife, Stephanie of Hockley, and Dr. Wyatt Tompkins & wife, Connie of Pearland; brother, Ira F. “Buck” Fowler & wife, Mae of Kirbyville; 18 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
